First, I bathed my cat (he is one of the few ones that doesn't mind it too terribly much), making sure he was completely under the soapy water (except his eyes and nose) to kill the fleas. Then, I sprinkled a thick line of Borax around the entire perimeter of my room. A couple of days later, I put Borax on the entire carpet, and used a stiff brush to rub it in. I left it for about 6 hours, and I let Pepperjack (my kitty) in the area to attract the disturbed fleas. Then I vacuumed all the borax up. I used a flea come for about 30 min on
That lasted about two or three weeks, probably because I didn't treat the living room, and I saw a few here and there, so I just picked them off with a flea comb (no more than 5 of em were on him) and then I brushed him over, to encourage the eggs to drop of onto the linoleum floor in my bathroom...and then used my All-Purpose-Cleaner to kill the eggs and clean the floor! (I've turned into a green-cleaning addict!)
I see a couple on him every now and then, so about every week or two weeks I comb him over. Walmart also has a pre-flea treatment made by Sergeant's and the product is Nature's Garden's Natural Flea and Tick Squeeze-On for Cats & Kittens It didn't help get rid of my flea infestation, but maybe it will help discourage the onset of fleas. The main ingredients are clove oil, lemongrass, and peppermint oil, with none of those toxic chemicals added. It makes the whole house smell like Christmas! I think I'll go put some on him right now! The price is competitive too, within about 50 cents of the chemical treatments. Nice.
